This course introduces students to the complex world of international relations through a Model United Nations (MUN) simulation, providing an immersive and hands-on experience in global diplomacy. Students will engage in role-playing exercises, representing various countries and engaging in simulated discussions on international issues, learning how global governance functions and the importance of collaboration and negotiation in solving world problems.

The course focuses on building diplomatic skills, teaching students how to communicate effectively in formal settings, draft resolutions, and navigate the intricacies of multilateral negotiations. Students will develop their abilities to advocate for their assigned country’s interests, craft well-thought-out proposals, and participate in debates that mirror the dynamics of real-world international diplomacy.

Resolution writing is a key component of the course, with students learning the structure and language of formal resolutions used in international forums. They will practice writing resolutions that address global challenges, from conflict resolution to environmental sustainability, and understand how these documents can be used to drive international policy decisions.

Additionally, students will gain a deeper understanding of global governance structures, including the roles of the United Nations, the Security Council, and other international organizations. They will explore how decisions are made at the global level, the challenges of international cooperation, and the influence of power, politics, and economics in shaping world affairs.

By the end of the course, students will have developed key skills in diplomacy, public speaking, resolution drafting, and global governance, preparing them to participate confidently in MUN conferences and gain a broader understanding of international relations.
